Walnut Grape carved Victorian Settee
I purchased this settee in 2003 from a local antique store. Before I purchased it, I had it appraised and it appraised well over $2,000. One of the things that makes this item valuable is that the Walnut wood has NOT been refinished, just cleaned. The antique dealer reupholstered it before I bought it and he chose a color that blends well with other furniture. If he had reupholstered it with period fabric (the red or green velvet) it would be worth more, but who has those colors today?
I have treated this settee as a piece of art. Never sat in.....well maybe my 110 lb mother. It is on its original casters.
I am aware that most people are not "into" Victorian furniture. My former house was Early American and this piece looked lovely against the footboard of my canopy bed. It is a calming bedroom/dressing room piece, yet also worked well in my piano room when I had a townhouse.
I don't expect much interest from C-List, since most of us are looking for a bargain. My favorite antique shop left my town and if they were still in business, I'd have this piece on consignment.
Please, only serious inquiries only.
I appreciate all of you who are reading my post and have commented with compliments. I haven't sold much on C-List, but the furniture and kayak that I did, I met some wonderful people. :o)
