Math Teachers Wanted for Free Animated Lesson Materials

I’m recruiting a small number of math teachers and classroom educators for a four-week pilot of **Kinetic Press**, an educational project exploring how animation can help students understand difficult mathematical concepts.
During the pilot, I will work with each participant to create a free animated explanation or lesson component addressing a recurring point of student confusion.
The material will be designed around your existing curriculum and teaching needs. My goal is to minimize additional preparation for you rather than ask you to adopt an entirely new program.
In exchange, I’m looking for educators willing to test the material with students and provide substantial, honest feedback.
**This is not a sales pitch.** I will not try to sell you software, enroll your school in a paid program, or pressure you to continue after the pilot. My benefit is entirely the opportunity to learn from educators and understand how animated materials work in real classrooms.
### Who can participate
I welcome educators teaching mathematics at any level, including:
* Elementary school
* Middle school
* High school
* AP or IB courses
* Community college
* University courses
* Adult education
* Homeschool programs
* Learning centers and intervention programs
Classroom teachers, instructors, teaching assistants, curriculum specialists, and homeschool educators are welcome.
You do not need to be enthusiastic about EdTech. Educators who are cautious, skeptical, or highly critical of new teaching tools are particularly encouraged to respond.
### What the pilot involves
Participation will generally include:
* One 30–45 minute introductory interview
* Identifying one concept or misconception that repeatedly causes difficulty
* Sharing relevant lesson materials, examples, worksheets, or curriculum context
* Reviewing an initial animated prototype
* Using the material with students at least twice, when scheduling permits
* Providing brief observations after each use
* One short weekly feedback conversation
* One final interview
I am especially interested in questions such as:
* Where do students lose the thread of an explanation?
* Which parts do they replay, ignore, or misunderstand?
* What must the teacher still explain verbally?
* Does the animation support discussion or get in the way?
* Can students apply the idea to a nearby problem afterward?
* Would the teacher voluntarily use the material again?
Formal experimental data is not required. Thoughtful classroom observations are enough.
### Scope
To keep the project focused, I will generally create:
* One central animated explanation or lesson component per educator
* A limited number of revisions
* Material connected to an existing lesson rather than an entire new curriculum
The tutorial may later be generalized so that the design and animation patterns can benefit other educators as well.
No student names or personally identifying information are needed. Participation can be structured conservatively around school privacy and technology requirements.
### Limited availability
Because each tutorial requires close collaboration and custom design, I can only accommodate a small number of educators during the initial pilot.
Strong applicants who cannot be included immediately may be placed on a waiting list in case a participant withdraws, scheduling changes, or another pilot group opens.
### How to respond
Please include:
1. Your role and the level of mathematics you teach
2. The course or subject involved
3. Approximately how many students you currently teach
4. One concept or misconception that repeatedly causes difficulty
5. How you currently teach or illustrate that concept
6. Whether you expect to teach it during the next month
7. Any school technology, curriculum, or privacy constraints I should know about
8. Whether you could participate in brief weekly feedback conversations
Specific examples are especially useful. For example:
“My geometry students can perform the steps of a proof, but they do not understand how each statement constrains what can come next.”
I’m looking for a small number of serious collaborators who are willing to help shape an educational tool through real classroom use.
