Welke’s Milwaukee Florist | A Family Tradition Since 1901
Welke’s Milwaukee Florist is looking for a dependable, organized, and energetic Floral Processing & Design Assistant to support our floral design and production team.
This is a hands-on position that plays an important role in keeping our design department running smoothly. The primary responsibilities include processing incoming fresh flowers, maintaining flower quality and organization, and pulling flowers and supplies for our designers so orders are ready to be created efficiently and accurately.
Responsibilities
• Receive and process incoming fresh flower shipments
• Properly cut, hydrate, clean, and prepare flowers for storage and design
• Inspect incoming flowers for freshness, quality, damage, and correct quantities
• Rotate flowers and maintain proper freshness using FIFO (first in, first out)
• Keep floral coolers clean, organized, labeled, and properly stocked
• Pull flowers for daily orders based on recipes, order specifications, and designer needs
• Prepare flowers and hardgoods for the design team before production begins
• Communicate shortages, substitutions, quality concerns, or inventory issues to the appropriate team member
• Restock commonly used flowers, greens, containers, and floral supplies
• Assist designers with prepping containers, greenery, mechanics, bows, and other materials
• Assist with basic floral design and production as experience and training allow
• Help prepare and organize flowers for weddings, funerals, events, holidays, and other high-volume production
• Maintain a clean and safe processing and design workspace
• Break down boxes, dispose of floral waste, clean buckets, and maintain processing equipment
• Assist with other floral production and shop duties as needed

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with flowers, likes staying busy, and takes pride in keeping things organized. This position requires someone who can work quickly while still paying close attention to quality and detail.
Qualifications:
• Dependable and punctual
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to follow floral recipes and written instructions accurately
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Good attention to detail
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Willing to learn flower varieties, care requirements, and floral design techniques
• Previous floral or design experience is helpful but not required
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry boxes, buckets, and floral supplies
• Flexibility to work additional hours during major floral holidays and busy periods
