At the turn of the 20th century if you needed to drill (or enlarge) a hole in a steel I-beam at a construction site, you'd use something like this.

Includes four Morse #3 bits: 1 1/4", 7/8", 13/16", 9/16"

Works smoothly. Reverses by pulling and twisting small knob at end of long handle.

Looks like it was designed to accept a "cheater" pipe over the handle when necessary. Big enough to be operated by two people.
