We have a small ground-level deck off our back door in Milton, WI that needs new decking, and I'm looking for a carpenter or handyman to do the work on a time and material basis. Photos attached.
What we need:
*Tear out the existing top boards, step treads, risers, and the pieces that connect the two.
*Install new (real) wood in their place. Please recommend a type and tell me why you'd pick it. We'll paint the deck, so let me know if the wood needs drying time before it takes paint.
*Keep the existing framing and the boards underneath. We think they're in good shape and plan to reuse them as the base. If you find rot or damage once the top is off, please tell me before you fix anything and quote the repair separately.
The deck:
It's roughly 20 feet wide along the house and about 10 feet out from the wall, so around 200 square feet of top surface. The deck boards are 5.5 inches wide and run out from the house. It sits about 14 inches off the ground, with two steps across the front and a side return on the right. No railing.
Quote:
Please send an hourly rate, an estimated hours range or a not-to-exceed number, and a note that materials will be billed at cost with receipts. We will invite good quotes out to give us a final estimate after you take direct measurements.
Cleanup:
You don't need to haul away the old lumber. We'll burn it. We do need you to pick up all nails, screws, and scraps when you finish, since we have kids and pets around.
About you:
References and a photo or two of similar work are appreciated.
Please reply by email through Craigslist and include your rate, availability, and the wood you'd recommend. I'm hoping to get this done this fall, weather permitting.
