Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to maintain and operate machines designed to cut structural steel material to a specified dimension.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Operate our V808 Voortman Robotic thermal cutting machine and Voortman V325 Plate Processing Machine.
Be available for swing-shift opportunities as needed.
Reads and understands prints, nests, and work instructions and verifies heat numbers before performing work orders.
Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves.
Transports materials from storage or work sites to designated areas using a forklift, overhead crane or other device.
Reads and interprets nests and diagrams to cut and shear material to size and form per customer drawings.
Sets up, operates, and tends linear machines, which cuts material to specified dimensions.
Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Communicates with several departments in regards to moving material between buildings based on order priority, delivery of materials, and status of orders and materials.
Contribute to inventory control by performing inventory stock checks, cycle counts, and other inventory related duties.
Records number of units handled and moved, using daily production sheets or work tickets.
Coordinates with co-workers and works in teams to gain efficiency and productivity.
Completes all paperwork required for the work order.
May assist Supervisor or other departments in other duties or special projects as needed.

Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment: Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, overhead cranes, or passenger vehicles.
Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates: Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
Handling and Moving Objects: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving and manipulating materials.
Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications.
Safety and Security: Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.
Processing Information: Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.
Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, inspecting equipment and maintenance.
Tools: Personal protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, etc.) tape measure, banding equipment, grinders, grease gun, air gun, forklift, overhead cranes, and other applicable equipment.
Qualifications
This particular position requires the individual to have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); at least 1-2 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferences
Prior experience with forklifts.
Must be able to accurately read a tape measure.
Demonstrate attention to detail.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Working Environment and Conditions
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, and be able to communicate verbally and in writing and take direction. The employee is frequently required to be in a stationary position, move about the buildings, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The individual will be performing physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and movement of the whole-body involving things such as lifting, balancing, moving, stooping, twisting, and handling of materials. The individual will frequently operate heavy machinery and use eye-hand coordination. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employees in this position may have to work overtime and weekends during busy periods or large fabrication jobs.
