of the only customizable Reversible Sweatshirts. Custom Ink and Thread
creates custom apparel for businesses, schools, teams, and organizations.
Our platform connects product selection, online design, pricing, artwork approval, checkout, and production coordination.
We’re looking for an experienced in the custom decoration, online e-commerce to take ownership of the platform’s technical development and ongoing operation. Working closely with the owner in person, you’ll translate business needs into practical solutions, make technical decisions, and carry improvements from planning through release.
This role requires intermediate or greater professional experience, independent judgment, and confidence in taking over an existing application.
What you’ll own
Technical takeover: Understand the existing codebase, architecture, connected services, and deployment setup; identify risks and establish a prioritized improvement plan.
Full-stack development: Build and maintain the customer storefront, design studio, customer accounts, administrative tools, and school storefronts.
Commerce workflows: Improve product catalogs, garment variants, quantity-based pricing, quotes, artwork proofs, approvals, checkout, and order tracking.
Integrations and automation: Maintain supplier catalog, inventory, and pricing feeds; website-to-CRM lead capture; payment and tax processing; shipping rates and labels; and transactional notification workflows.
Connected business tools: Support Zoho CRM and Zoho Campaigns integrations, including lead-field mapping, website data flows, reusable HTML email templates, and troubleshooting.
Artwork and AI features: Maintain AI-assisted artwork and image-processing capabilities, with attention to output quality, error handling, and usage costs.
Platform reliability: Diagnose issues, resolve underlying causes, improve performance, and maintain dependable background jobs and webhook processing.
Security and releases: Protect customer and business data, maintain access controls and bot protection, manage database migrations, and deliver tested releases with recovery procedures.
Owner collaboration: Work closely with the owner to clarify requirements, demonstrate progress, explain tradeoffs, and prioritize delivery within the agreed weekly schedule.
Technical continuity: Keep architecture notes, setup instructions, integration documentation, and operating procedures current.
Experience and skills required
Professional experience building, deploying, and maintaining full-stack web applications, with examples of independently delivering substantial features.
Strong proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Next.js, and Node.js.
Experience with PostgreSQL, relational data modeling, SQL, file storage, and safe database changes.
Practical experience integrating APIs, authentication, payment systems, webhooks, and background processing.
Ability to understand and improve an unfamiliar codebase while preserving existing business workflows.
Experience with Git and GitHub, automated testing, deployment workflows, production debugging, and application monitoring.
Understanding of secure API integration, secrets management, role-based access, and reliable data synchronization across connected systems.
Practical experience using AI coding tools such as Codex or Claude Code for codebase exploration, implementation, debugging, and testing, with independent review and verification of generated code.
Attention to responsive design, usability, accessibility, and application performance.
Clear communication, realistic estimates, organized execution, and reliable follow-through.
Availability to work in person in Downtown Los Angeles for an initial 20-hour workweek.
Experience that will stand out
Custom apparel, decorated merchandise, print-on-demand, or apparel e-commerce experience.
Understanding of garment styles, colors and sizes, decoration methods, artwork requirements, proof approvals, and production lead times.
Experience with supplier systems such as SanMar, S&S Activewear, or Momentec.
Familiarity with Supabase, Clerk, Stripe, Vercel, and GitHub Actions, including authentication, payments and taxes, automated deployments, and production logs.
Experience with Zoho CRM and Zoho Campaigns, or comparable CRM and email marketing platforms.
Experience integrating shipping services for rate calculation and label creation, ideally UPS.
Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and connecting AI development tools to repositories, documentation, and services using appropriately scoped permissions.
Experience with Fabric.js, canvas-based design tools, AI model APIs, background removal, or production-ready artwork exports.
Experience building multi-tenant storefronts, pricing engines, order-management systems, or transactional email integrations.
Expected deliverables
Make over development and turn the existing platform into a reliable, polished product that customers and staff can use confidently.
Resolve bugs and incomplete features across product browsing, the design studio, pricing, artwork approval, checkout, and order management.
Build substantial in-house automation, working hand in hand with the owner to understand daily operations, identify repetitive tasks, and turn manual processes into dependable workflows.
Use AI tools, API integrations, and workflow automation to streamline lead handling, quoting, artwork preparation, customer follow-ups, order processing, and production coordination, with review controls where needed.
Improve supplier synchronization so product availability, pricing, images, and garment options remain accurate and consistent.
Strengthen artwork customization and AI-assisted design tools to produce better previews and usable production files.
Connect the website, CRM, payments, shipping, and production systems to reduce duplicate entry, missed handoffs, and manual tracking.
Improve mobile usability, page speed, and the ordering experience to help more customers complete their purchases.
Deliver meaningful product improvements and measurable reductions in manual work, prioritizing closely with the owner to grow sales and increase operational capacity. Our sales are growing with zero effort; we know we can easily quadruple these sales when the website is fully automated and synchronized as it should be. This job will become a full-time position with an equity stake in the company.
