Native Speaker, Bilingual Educator, and California CSET-Credentialed Instructor
As a native Spanish speaker raised in a Spanish-speaking family, I bring both linguistic fluency and cultural insight to my teaching. Because I learned English as a young adult, I understand firsthand the challenges and rewards of becoming fully bilingual and developing conversational confidence in a second language. I am fully bilingual in Spanish and English and hold California CSET Spanish teaching credentials, with more than 26 years of experience helping students communicate confidently in real-world situations.
Twenty-Six Years of Teaching Experience (all levels of education)
I have been teaching Spanish since 2000, when I began my career at Berlitz. Over the past twenty-six years, I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, including elementary, middle school, high school, college, master's-level, and doctoral students, as well as fellow Spanish teachers seeking to strengthen their language skills. My teaching experience includes private instruction, group classes, professional training, academic support, conversational Spanish, travel Spanish, pronunciation coaching, and customized language programs designed around each student's goals. METHOD AND PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS:
My teaching approach focuses on practical communication, pronunciation, conversation, travel Spanish, professional Spanish, and cultural fluency rather than memorization alone. I work with beginners, intermediate learners, advanced speakers, and heritage speakers seeking to strengthen their skills and communicate naturally in real-world situations. Over the past twenty-six years, I have worked with professionals from a wide variety of fields, including healthcare, law, education, entertainment, hospitality, construction, government, business, and the military. My students have included doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, therapists, actors, public figures, restaurant professionals, construction workers, and corporate employees.
Many students sought Spanish skills to qualify for promotions, communicate more effectively with clients and colleagues, or advance within their organizations. Others needed intensive language training before relocating abroad for work, education, or personal opportunities. Because every student has different goals, I create customized lessons designed around each learner's professional, academic, travel, or conversational needs.
Education
I earned a Master of Arts in Telecommunication Arts from the University of Michigan as a Full Fellowship recipient and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Advertising from The Ohio State University. My graduate studies focused on communication, media, and audience engagement, skills that continue to influence my teaching style today. I believe language learning should be practical, interactive, and tailored to each student's goals. As a native Spanish speaker, I tested out of all Spanish language requirements at The Ohio State University with perfect scores and completed the examinations in record time. This allowed me to focus on advanced communication, writing, advertising, and media studies while continuing to strengthen my bilingual communication skills. My academic training, combined with more than twenty-six years of teaching experience, enables me to help students communicate confidently and effectively in academic, professional, travel, and everyday settings.
Performance, Media, and Communication Experience
In addition to my teaching career, I am a professional singer, performer, producer, director, and public speaker. My original music and music videos with my band Neon Venus have appeared on MTV Español, MTV Puerto Rico, and VHUno. I also directed a rockumentary documenting our Mediterranean tour through Spain, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, and the Sinai. Beyond performance, I have owned and operated performance venues in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, producing thousands of live music, theater, comedy, and community arts events. These experiences allowed me to work with artists, audiences, educators, business professionals, and public figures from many different backgrounds. My career in communication, media, performance, and public speaking gives me a unique perspective as a language teacher. I help students not only learn Spanish, but also develop confidence, pronunciation, presentation skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to communicate naturally and effectively in real-world situations. I particularly enjoy working with performers, actors, singers, public speakers, business professionals, travelers, and anyone seeking to become a more confident communicator in Spanish.
