JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for someone who is dependable, takes ownership of their work, follows through on assignments, and responds professionally to direction and feedback. This position requires someone who can work independently, stay productive without constant supervision, and understand that farm priorities may change throughout the day. Employees are expected to complete assigned tasks thoroughly and on time, communicate problems promptly, and accept coaching and correction professionally.
The Farmhand is responsible for daily care and oversight of the farm’s laying hens, including flock monitoring, egg collection, and ensuring proper feed, water, and housing conditions. This role also supports a variety of general farm tasks such as light landscaping, grounds maintenance, and assisting with seasonal projects. The position requires reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of animal welfare and farm cleanliness.
JOB DUTIES
-Chicken care and monitoring
-Egg collection
-Cleaning and maintaining poultry housing and farm facilities
-Moving mobile chicken houses and fencing to assist with rotational grazing
-Transport eggs safely to the processing area and report any unusual egg issues (shell quality, quantity variances, etc.).
-Assisting with farm projects and construction/maintenance tasks
-Operating farm equipment after appropriate training
-Other general farm duties as needed
***Farm work is varied. Employees may be asked to move from one task to another as priorities change. Being willing to do the work that needs to be done is an important part of this position.***
REQUIREMENTS:
-Stand and walk for extended periods on uneven ground
-Bend, squat, kneel, reach, and work in awkward positions
-Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
-Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
-Work around livestock, dust, mud, manure, and other normal farm conditions
-Strong observation skills and attention to detail
-Dependability and the ability to work independently after training.
-Driver's license
-18 years old or older
EXPERIENCE
-Chicken experience NOT required; we are willing to train the right person
-Experience with agriculture, landscaping, construction, equipment operation, or other physical outdoor work is a plus.
Compensation: starting at $17.50/hour with the opportunity for raises as you demonstrate that you are a good fit for the position. We are willing to increase pay relatively quickly for employees who demonstrate that they are dependable, learn the job well, work independently, consistently complete tasks without needing reminders, and take on additional responsibilities.
Schedule:
-Approximately 20 hours per week.
-Core hours include Saturdays and Sunday mornings. These shifts must start no later than 9 am and be at least 3 hours long. Outside of these core hours, remaining work time is slightly flexible.

-You have difficulty changing tasks when priorities change
-You are uncomfortable doing dirty or unpleasant farm chores
-You are uncomfortable near gross things. You will encounter unpleasant odors, manure, dead animals, mud, etc.
-You have difficulty working independently
-You are looking for a job where you can work at your own pace regardless of what needs to be completed
