PART-TIME PERSONAL & HOUSEHOLD ASSISTANT — LAFAYETTE/LAMORINDA
I posted for a personal assistant earlier this year, but an unusually busy summer and fall travel schedule made it difficult for me to devote the time I wanted to the search. I’m now back in the market and looking for the right person to help me manage and organize a very busy household, home office, personal life, and several professional and volunteer commitments.
Organization is a major part of this position. I have a home office that needs ongoing attention — paperwork, filing, records, projects, correspondence, photos, and all the miscellaneous things that need a system and a home. I’m looking for someone who genuinely enjoys creating order, developing simple systems, filing and organizing, and then helping me keep those systems working.
The ideal person is extremely organized, responsible, trustworthy, warm, tech-savvy, creative, and highly self-motivated. I need someone who can look at a pile of papers, an overflowing file, or a project with lots of moving pieces and instinctively think, “I can organize this.”
This is not a traditional desk job, and the variety is part of what makes it fun. One day might involve organizing and filing in my office; another could include researching a trip, creating an itinerary, organizing photos or working on a photo book, making returns, coordinating with a vendor, ordering something online, organizing a closet, or helping prepare for a dinner or event.
I especially value someone who sees what needs to be done, takes initiative, and can work independently without needing constant direction or follow-up.
Responsibilities may include:
• Home office organization, filing, paperwork, and record keeping
• Creating and maintaining organizational systems for both home and office
• Calendar, correspondence, email, and general administrative assistance
• Keeping track of projects, deadlines, appointments, and follow-up items
• Travel research, itineraries, reservations, and trip organization
• Photo organization, photo books, and other personal projects
• Online research, shopping, ordering, returns, and errands
• Household organization — closets, drawers, files, photos, etc.
• Gift wrapping, shipping packages, and preparing gifts
• Coordinating with household staff, vendors, contractors, and service providers
• Helping with parties, dinners, invitations, and other events
• Occasional grocery shopping and local errands
• Assisting with miscellaneous personal, family, professional, and volunteer projects
The right person will be:
• Exceptionally organized — this is essential
• Extremely trustworthy and discreet
• A self-starter who enjoys bringing order to things
• Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through
• Comfortable with computers, technology, and learning new programs
• Resourceful and able to solve problems independently
• Creative and willing to tackle unfamiliar projects
• A strong communicator
• Warm, positive, flexible, and easy to work with
• Comfortable working collaboratively and respectfully with other people in the household
• Ideally local to Lafayette/Lamorinda, since some workdays may only require a few hours
I’m ideally looking for approximately 10–20 flexible daytime hours per week, generally weekdays, with no regular evenings and very rare weekend needs.
This could be a great fit for someone who gets genuine satisfaction from turning chaos into order, enjoys checking things off a list, and likes a mix of office, organizational, creative, and household projects rather than doing the same thing every day.
If interested, please send me a brief introduction, resume or summary of relevant experience, your general availability, where you live, and your desired hourly rate. I’d also love to know what kinds of organizational projects you’ve handled in the past and what types of tasks you most enjoy.
