Hi, my name is Benny Hokanson! I’m a professional musician, educator, and guitarist with an AA in Contemporary Music from Musicians Institute and 3 years of study at the California Jazz Conservatory. I've played in many bands including The Walnut Creek Jazz Band. I've also studied with renowned teachers like Jeff Massanari and Dean Brown.
I’m hosting 12-week group guitar classes at the Lafayette Community Center from August 26 – November 18, plus offering private in-home lessons.
Whether you're picking up the guitar for the first time or looking to learn jazz and blues, there’s a class for you!
🎸 CLASSES OFFERED (Wednesdays @ Lafayette Community Center):

-Beginning Guitar (4:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
No experience needed. Learn basic chords, strumming patterns, rhythm, and simple songs in a supportive setting.

-Intermediate Guitar (5:15 PM – 6:15 PM)
Expand your skills with chord fluency, scales, music theory, ear training, sight-reading, and effective practice strategies.

-Intro to Blues Guitar (6:30 PM – 7:30 PM)
Learn 7th chords, 12-bar blues progressions, major/minor blues scales, phrasing, and improvisation.

-Intro to Jazz Guitar (7:45 PM – 8:45 PM)
Focuses on comping, chord vocabulary, scale work, arpeggios, and improvising.

🏡 PRIVATE LESSONS:
Available for kids and adults. I can travel directly to your house!
