The welding and fabrication shop estimator is a full-time, on-site role located in Lacey, WA. This role is responsible for reviewing drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to prepare accurate material takeoffs, labor estimates, and project quotes. Day-to-day tasks include assessing fabrication and welding needs, collaborating with shop personnel to confirm production methods, and updating estimates as project details change. The estimator communicates directly with customers to clarify scope, provide pricing, and discuss options, while maintaining records of quotes, job costs, and timelines. This role also assists with scheduling work, coordinating with suppliers, and supporting continuous improvement in estimating processes and shop efficiency.
Qualifications
• Strong practical knowledge of Welding and Arc Welding techniques for shop and project evaluation.
• Hands-on experience with TIG Welding and MIG Welding sufficient to understand process requirements and constraints.
• Understanding of Materials used in metal fabrication, including steel, aluminum, and alloys, and their cost and performance implications.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications for accurate estimates.
• Basic math and analytical skills for calculating labor hours, material quantities, and project costs.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with customers, vendors, and shop staff.
• Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple quotes and deadlines.
• Experience in a welding/fabrication shop or construction-related estimating is preferred.
• Proficiency with standard office software and, ideally, basic estimating or ERP tools.
• Commitment to safety standards and quality workmanship in a shop environment.
