These speaker stands are 28 in tall and they are all metal. You might as well consider these speaker stands brand new because I purchased them about 3 months ago and they've been sitting there with nothing on them ever since. The reason is because the top plates are very small. They are only 6 in. x 8 1/2 in. You will only be able to put a small pair of speakers on them. The ones I wanted will not fit. Didn't feel like going through the process of sending them back to Amazon. But they are very awesome and heavy and sturdy. Very solid. Each one has four square hollow metal tubes which I filled with aquarium pebbles, (completely dry of course, from a sealed package), for extra weight and vibration dampening. The company apparently does not offer different size top plates that you can purchase, so if you wanted larger ones, you'd have to go through the hassle of going to some hardware store or machine shop or something and have one cut. Or maybe go with wooden ones or something.
