Museum Replicas. Judaic Sanctuary Vessels plaque. Interpreted in relief by Joan S Diamond, this design is taken from a Biblical commentary written, and possibly illuminated, by Solomon ben Raphael in 1299. It became Sephardic custom to adorn the preliminary folios of Hebrew Bibles with the ritualistic objects that, according to rabbinic tradition, had once graced the ancient Solomonic Temple. This manuscript is believed to be one of the earliest examples of such Bibles. The Hebrew script describes the depicted objects and gives appropriate Biblical references.
