OK I had to say something about this subject. Why? There are way too many ads saying free firewood for camping.
If you are camping on any Public Lands in the United States there are specific federal, state and county laws that regulate if or how you can collect firewood and if and where you can bring your firewood to and from. This may also include construction lumber, painted or stained lumber and certain species of trees and shrubbery that could be toxic to you or the environment.
The last thing you want to do is to get a big citation, have your firewood confiscated as evidence and then have to go to court and pay a big fine. Some cases carry Federal Charges that come with real consequences and, if it’s bad enough, jail time.
Before you collect or transport any firewood take five minutes to educate yourself to avoid any trouble with law enforcement.
