Charming, authentic vintage pair of anthropomorphic animal figurines made in Japan during the 1950s/1960s. This delightful set features a floppy-eared puppy in blue overalls and a sweet little pig in green overalls. Both are styled in the classic big-eyed, rosy-cheeked "kawaii" kitsch look of the era.
Beautifully hand-painted under the glaze, meaning the vibrant blue, green, and pink accents are permanently sealed and protected from flaking or fading over time.
One tiny chip on the back of the pig's ear. Otherwise no cracks, or repairs. Excellent vintage structural condition. The puppy features some classic mid-century factory painting quirks on its eyelashes/pupils, showing the authentic, rushed hand-painted touch typical of these Japanese export wares. It gives them a wonderful, unique personality!
Each is 3.25" tall (perfect size for a tiered tray, kitsch display shelf, or windowsill).
