In the 1960s-70 IBM mainframes had various competitors. One competitor was Burroughs with their Small, Medium and Large Systems of computers. I worked on both Medium and Large Systems. The Large Systems(B6700, B7700) were a lot of fun to work with. EVERYTHING was based on the ALGOL programming language. These were so successful that users wrote books on them - Donald Gregory wrote seven volumes which I have a copies of.
(ALGOL vol1&2, WFL Primer(ie JCL), DMS, COBOL)
