One AMPEX 499 2" Grandmaster Gold RECORDING TAPE For 24 track or 16 track recorders.
Stored away in my tape supplies box. Have now sold all my tape machines. Don't remember whether I bulk erased it.
It was the premium tape that could record up to +9db
(as opposed to 456 which was originally +3db/185nWb.--- Altho it was common for studio tape decks to cal @+3db/250nWb.
The 456 formula also has sticky tape storage problems "sticktion".)
But that 456 formula was replaced
by +9db 499 & GP9 which has better magnetic coercivity and improved binder thus could record at higher levels & not suffer sticktion.
Or...If you want, just dump the tape and use the 2" aluminum take up reel. I've sold empty 2"reels for the same $50 price on CL.
