I have this beautiful 6 month old rooster to let go as I can’t have in my yard let me know
Blue Copper Marans (or a very similar blue/copper-patterned Marans-type or cross).
This rooster shows the classic look of that variety:
• Slate-gray to dark charcoal-blue body plumage (the “blue” dilution of black).
• Copper/golden-orange to rusty highlights on the neck hackles, saddle, and especially the wing bows/coverts.
• Darker (nearly black) tail with long, curved sickle feathers.
• Bright red single comb and wattles.
• Clean (or at most lightly feathered) slate-gray legs and feet.
• Medium-to-large, sturdy build typical of dual-purpose Marans.
Blue Copper Marans are the blue-gene version of the popular Black Copper Marans. They come from the same French heritage breed (from the town of Marans) known for dark chocolate-brown eggs. Pure French lines usually have lightly feathered legs; many English/American strains (and backyard birds) are clean-legged like the one in your photo.
Exact matches can vary because:
• Blue is an incompletely dominant gene, so shades range from light steel-gray to deep slate.
• Backyard flocks often include crosses, so it could also be a Marans mix carrying blue + copper genetics rather than a purebred.
• Lighting, age, and molt can shift how coppery the neck and wings appear.
Other less-likely possibilities (ruled out mainly by the single comb, clean legs, and specific gold-on-slate pattern) include certain blue gamefowl, Blue Andalusians (more uniform laced blue, no strong copper), or Blue Laced varieties of other breeds (usually rose combs or different patterns).
If you have more details (egg color from related hens, exact weight, whether any leg feathering is present up close, or known parentage), the ID can be narrowed further. Otherwise, Blue Copper Marans (or close relative) is the best match for this handsome rooster.
