Commercial Casework Inc. (CCI) is a 50-year leader in high-end commercial architectural millwork and custom cabinetry. We deliver complex interiors - from fast-turn projects to large, multi-million-dollar scopes - for demanding general contractors and clients throughout Northern California and beyond.
We are 100% employee-owned (ESOP) and growing, with facilities in Fremont and Sacramento, California. We are hiring for in-office positions at both locations across three levels within our Project Management Department.
We welcome candidates with strong transferable commercial construction experience at the PE level. Candidates applying directly for APM or PM must have relevant commercial architectural millwork experience.
HOW OUR PM TEAM WORKS
Our projects move through the complete architectural millwork lifecycle:
Contract & Scope - Shop Drawings - Submittals/Approvals - Field Dimensions - Procurement - Engineering - Fabrication - Delivery & Installation - Financial Closeout
Our team coordinates externally with General Contractors, architects/design teams, other trades, vendors and subcontractors, while driving execution internally through Engineering, Purchasing, Production and Field Operations.
This is a fast-paced environment where drawings, approvals, field conditions, procurement, production lead times, cost and client commitments are constantly interconnected. We need people who think ahead, identify problems early, communicate clearly and take ownership.
PROJECT ENGINEER (PE)
The PE role builds the project-control foundation needed to become a successful CCI Project Manager. PEs support larger projects while managing projects generally around +/- $500K, with oversight and support from PMs and SPMs.
Manage day-to-day project execution from award through closeout
Coordinate shop drawings, submittals, RFIs and architectural revisions
Track approvals, field dimensions, material releases and other production prerequisites
Coordinate externally with GCs, architects, other trades, vendors and subcontractors
Coordinate internally with Engineering, Purchasing, Production and Field Operations
Track schedules, production lead times, deliveries and installation readiness
Assist with and manage change orders, billing and financial closeout
Manage subcontracted scopes such as stone, seating and metal
Build the organization, communication and project-control skills required for advancement
PE CANDIDATE PROFILE
0-3+ years of commercial construction, millwork, specialty subcontracting, architecture, engineering or related experience
Comfortable reading architectural drawings
Strong organization, communication and follow-through
Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Accountable, curious and willing to learn a specialized trade
Architectural millwork experience is preferred but not required at the PE level. Candidates with strong transferable construction backgrounds but limited millwork experience should apply here.
ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER (APM)
APMs already understand commercial architectural millwork execution and are developing toward full independent project ownership. APMs manage medium-complexity projects generally around +/- $1M, with oversight and support from an SPM.
Manage assigned millwork projects from award through closeout
Own shop drawings, submittals, RFIs and architectural revision coordination
Manage approvals, field dimensions, procurement and production prerequisites
Coordinate externally with GCs, architects, other trades, vendors and subcontractors
Drive execution internally through Engineering, Purchasing, Production and Field Operations
Manage schedules, installation commitments, change orders, billing and project financials
Identify scope, schedule and cost risks early and drive them toward resolution
Coordinate fabrication, delivery, installation and closeout
APM REQUIREMENTS
DIRECT COMMERCIAL ARCHITECTURAL MILLWORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Experience with shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, field dimensions and procurement
Understanding of millwork fabrication and installation
Experience coordinating directly with commercial GCs and project teams
Strong drawing and specification comprehension
Experience with schedules, change orders, billing and project financials
Demonstrated ability to manage smaller millwork projects or significant portions of larger projects
Candidates without direct commercial architectural millwork experience should apply at the PE level.
PROJECT MANAGER (PM)
PMs independently own larger and more complex commercial architectural millwork projects from award through financial closeout. This is not an entry-level Project Management position.
Own the complete project lifecycle from award through installation and financial closeout
Serve as CCI's primary point of contact with the GC/client
Lead shop drawings, submittals, RFIs and scope/revision coordination
Manage field verification, procurement and production prerequisites
Drive project schedules, lookaheads and installation commitments
Coordinate externally with GCs, architects, other trades, vendors and subcontractors
Drive internal execution through Engineering, Purchasing, Production and Field Operations
Manage budgets, cost exposure, change orders, billing and overall project financial performance
Proactively identify and communicate schedule, scope and cost risks
Manage fabrication, delivery, installation, punch list and closeout
Maintain AWI/WI quality expectations
PM REQUIREMENTS
DIRECT COMMERCIAL ARCHITECTURAL MILLWORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
3+ years of direct commercial architectural millwork Project Management experience preferred
Demonstrated ownership of millwork projects from award through installation
Strong understanding of shop drawings, submittals, RFIs and architectural revisions
Experience with field dimensions, procurement, fabrication and installation
Strong GC/client communication and relationship management
Strong schedule management and proactive planning
Experience managing change orders, billing, budgets and project financials
Ability to independently manage multiple complex projects

TECHNICAL EXPECTATIONS
Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings
Bluebeam and Excel proficiency
Experience with Procore or similar construction-management platforms
Strong written and verbal communication
High attention to detail and finish quality
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Project Engineer (PE): $85K-$105K
Assistant Project Manager (APM): $95K-$125K
Project Manager (PM): $125K-$150K
Additional compensation includes a sign-on bonus, quarterly bonus approximately equal to 15-20% of base salary annually, and ESOP with a 12% company contribution.
