This excellent Seth Thomas mantle mantel clock is a somewhat uncommon *Adamantine finish in French Marble, sometimes called Butternut. While the vast majority of Seth Thomas mantel clocks were produced in standard black enamel or black-and-mottled-color combinations (commonly known as "Black Mantel Clocks"), non-black variants that mimic exotic woods or colored marble—such as red, rosewood, and green or beige marble veneers—are significantly scarcer and harder to find on the antique market.
* A proprietary celluloid veneer material developed by the Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York City and used by the Seth Thomas Clock Company on its late 19th- and early 20th-century mantel and shelf clocks.
