Please be prepared to address all your concerns up front as well.
(So there is no misunderstandings or unmet expectations after you move in.)
This is a family home. If your looking for a place to bring your friends over, watch the game, and party? This isn't the place for you.
We are active members of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, Together with our current roommate, we have almost 80 years of sobriety. If you are not in recovery, and looking for a safe, Drama free environment, You are welcome! And if you drink occasionally that's ok also... But absolutely no drugs or alcohol around us, This means no green stuff either. This is not a halfway house, or a recovery center. This is a safe place to "stay" sober, we don't wish to "get" you sober.
We are in our 60s, our kids and grand children visit quite often. We try and maintain a safe warm environment for them!
Our home life here is quiet, and drama free - 99% of the time. (children) We normally go to bed at 10pm.
This is a 5 bedroom, 3 bath home. In a quiet neighborhood. My wife and I live down stairs. (This is our space.) We don't share the Livingroom and TV. But, I do pay the cable bill for you, and I have on demand movies with excellent wi-fi, for Netflix, or a smart TV, and computers. Hopefully that makes up for it a little.😊
No couples or pets please.
I don't like making rules, but worse than making rules, is having to remind people about them. Those are the kinds of things that help create drama. I'm actually a really easy guy to get along with, and I haven't had anyone hate me and move out yet. Most people who have lived here stay for a long time and like it here.
That being said....
The Bedroom:
The room is upstairs, there are 2 rooms upstairs, a 71 year old "sober" male across the hallway from your room. You will share a full bath. The rooms are larger than other rooms that I see on here, most are only 10x10. Your room is 14x12, has a nice walk in closet, portable A/C with a heater, and hardwood floors. There is extra storage in the hallway for linens or whatever.
Added privacy-> Since we are separated from the up stairs, and your room doesn't share any walls with any one else. There's some added privacy by this. you do share a wall with the bathroom, but Dave doesn't work or get up early to take showers.
The kitchen: Just Common sense!
the following probably doesn't need to be said, but' some people need to here it. if your not one of them please ignore it!
Just because you don't feel like cleaning something up, doesn't mean we do!
1: light cooking only: microwave, eat out or sandwiches and such are preferred. If you must use the stove, turn the overhead fan on. and open the patio door to let out the majority of the smell.
2: No frying: no bacon or deep frying please. We have purchased a electric frying pan, for outside use, on the covered patio. If you must fry something.
3:try not to use the oven or cook on hot days: (works against trying to keep the house cool when its hot). I also furnish a small electric broiler/oven on the patio, when you have to bake or broil something real quick.
4:The stove top: Open the patio slider: and turn on the overhead fan! so the smell doesn't get locked in the house, and to avoid smelling up the house,
Potentially, 3 separate meals could be prepared at each meal time, it could possibly create overwhelming odors in the house, that can linger on for days! The house is getting old and doesn't have modern venting.
I promise not to get upset if you try to help, like taking out the garbage once in a while, wipe down the counter, sweep the floor.
Please pay attention to the small things, It drives us nuts to find crumbs, small droplets of food, or a half wiped spill and such anywhere in the kitchen.
Just because you dont feel like cleaning something up... doesn't mean we do!

The washer and drier:

Neighborhood:

Close to Walmart, Raley's.
If you plan on contacting me, you may want to print this and read it a couple times....
there will be a test!
not really... (just trying to be funny)
I almost forgot... There will be a background check, and you will need to bring in last place you rented from information, so we can verify your ability to be responsible with paying rent. I've already had to deal with people who were jumping from place to place, and not paying rent. There is also a 600.00 deposit plus first months rent. and sorry, I use my garage for my toys and tools, I need the work space. I don't have room for storage.
Good luck in your search, hope you find something that works for you!
My name is Dave, by the way!
