Fifth week of 2007 build
Instrument is in very good to excellent condition for a 19-year-old guitar. Only a few paint dings along the edges; otherwise the paint is very good. Neck is unmarked. Small ding on HS, two near the jack plate, two on the upper bout / horn - side and back, one in the upper body cut, one on the lower bout top. All of these are paint chips or barely-there indents. They are all repairable. I chose to not attempt repair; paint is not my bailiwick. See photos.
Lowered the action for much better playability. The guitar plays very well with no high/low frets / no buzz.
• Original tuners work as they should and turn easily
• Tailpiece is heavy and adds to ring and sustain
• Original pickups are strong and powerful
• Blend knob opens onto a world of subtle tonal changes and complexity
• All electronics work well and as expected; clean and not scratchy/noisy
• Rick-O-Sound and Standard outputs
Wear
Finish has 19 years of very minor wear, thankfully. I’ve cleaned up as much as I could/would without damage to the finish. See photos.
Slight buckle-rash/worming on the back.
I love the soft, subtle wood grain. It’s not in-your-face and is, instead, quiet and beautifully reserved. The FireGlo finish really shows the grain.
Reversible Changes
I created a faux-gold gilded and clear pickguard combo after purchasing a clear PG set. I also did a faux-gold gilded HS truss rod cover. The PGs are on the underside so are safe from scratches and abuse. The HS truss rod cover is gilded on the surface and is shot heavily with gloss acrylic for protection. I cannot promise that it will not wear, but is sure looks good! It reminds me of the Ric Tom Petty instrument which is ludicrously expensive, although… wow.
