I'm 32 and have been working full-time in a physically demanding field for about 10 years. I'm currently employed and making around $33/hr, so I'm not looking to quit my job for minimum wage or an unpaid internship.
I'm looking to transition into a technical trade where I can build skills and increase my earning potential over time.
My strongest existing knowledge is mechanical. I've spent years working on and diagnosing vehicles and have a strong understanding of internal-combustion engines and mechanical systems. I'm comfortable troubleshooting problems and learning how things work.
I'm particularly interested in diesel, generator service, industrial maintenance, electromechanical work, automotive performance/customization, or similar fields.
I don't have formal trade certifications yet, but I'm willing to pursue employer-provided training if there's a legitimate path forward.
I'm looking for an employer willing to train someone with a strong mechanical foundation rather than requiring several years of industry experience from day one.
Ideally I'm looking for something starting around $24–28/hr or better, with room for raises, overtime, certifications, and advancement.
