Part Time Document Reviewer (QA/QC), K-12 / DSA
North San Diego County | Contract, 15 to 20 hours per week | Remote or hybrid
An established San Diego County architecture firm specializing in K-12 work is looking for a senior architect to review construction documents before they go out. Our clients include several of the largest districts in Southern California.
This is a review role only. No production, no client meetings, no management, no deadlines of your own beyond our submittal dates. If you spent a career running K-12 documents and want to keep using that judgment without running a project again, this is built for you.
What you would do:
Review 50%, 100%, and backcheck sets for coordination, completeness, and code compliance. Check that architectural, structural, and MEP are telling the same story. Verify details are referenced, keynotes match, and the drawings reflect the scope in the program documents. Confirm accessibility and path of travel work meets CBC Chapter 11B and current DSA requirements. Flag what a DSA plan reviewer or a district design manager would flag. Deliver a written comment list we can work from.
What we are looking for:
California licensed architect, 20 or more years of experience, with substantial K-12 and DSA project history. Working knowledge of CBC Title 24, DSA IRs, and district design standards. Comfortable in Revit and Bluebeam enough to mark up a set. Direct, specific, and willing to tell us when something is not ready.
Former DSA plan reviewers are encouraged to apply.
Logistics:
15 to 20 hours per week on average, heavier around submittal dates and lighter between them. Remote is fine, or you are welcome in our North County office if you prefer. Schedule is yours to set as long as reviews come back on the dates we agree to.
Compensation:
Competitive hourly salary depending on experience, on a 1099 contract.
To apply:
Send a resume and a short note about the K-12 projects you have taken through DSA to sherri@marcatects.com. We are happy to start with a single paid document review so we can both see how it goes.
Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.
