Job Overview
We are looking for hardworking Sidewalk Technicians to join our ground crew for the upcoming winter season. In this role, your main priority is keeping walkways safe for foot traffic by removing snow and ice that trucks cannot reach. No driving or CDL is required for this role. This is an on-call, physical position that operates primarily during and immediately after winter storms.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Hand Shoveling: Use commercial snow shovels and pushers to clear snow from sidewalks, stairways, building entryways, and handicap ramps.
• Snowblower Operation: Safely operate walk-behind snowblowers to clear long stretches of pedestrian walkways and walkways efficiently.
• Ice Prevention: Spread rock salt or calcium chloride pellets using walk-behind push spreaders or hand scoops to melt ice and prevent slips and falls.
• Detail-Oriented Clearing: Clear snow all the way down to the pavement, ensuring emergency exits, doorways, and fire hydrants are completely unobstructed.
• Safety Compliance: Wear required high-visibility winter safety gear and remain alert to surroundings, including nearby moving plow trucks and vehicles.
Job Requirements
• Physical Endurance: Ability to perform heavy, repetitive lifting and continuous physical labor in freezing temperatures and high winds.
• On-Call Availability: Flexibility to respond to shifts at short notice, including overnight, early morning, weekend, and holiday hours based on the weather forecast.
• Reliable Transportation: A dependable way to get to our main shop or a designated meetup spot when called in for a storm.
• Appropriate Clothing: Must have your own waterproof, insulated winter boots, gloves, and warm clothing (company will provide high-visibility vests/safety gear).
• Teamwork: Ability to follow directions from a crew leader and work efficiently alongside other shovelers.
Benefits & Perks
• Great hourly pay with reliable hours during heavy winter storms.
• No prior experience or driver's license required—on-the-job training provided.
• Excellent position for seasonal workers, students, or anyone looking to earn extra winter income.
