This awesomely flavorful smoke blue frame from Diamondback is really fun! Enjoy a cheap and rad bike this winter!
I think this is a 1990 model year, which I stripped down to the frame and rebuilt to be a real monster truck. 1x9 gearing (think: lowwwww) with 26”x2.25” chunky tires. It has snappy V brakes and a lot of space in the frame for a giant bag. There’s a lot more utility options than you’d think too, double water bottle mounts, and even some braze-ons midway down the fork.
Notable improvements:
Modern 1x cranks, press fit bb
WTB trail boss 26x2.25 tires
Brand spankin new cables and housing from Jagwire / Shimano
9 speed cassette with wide range.
V brakes
Lock-on grips
Big platform pedals
New chain (might be a bit long, but I’ve chosen to leave it in case if you want to get a bigger chainring up front. It just rubs in the smallest cog)
Easy to find Shimano Deore rear deraileur in case you get too gnarly and need to swap out.
Ritchey Logic seat post in silver, plus other pops of silver details.
I think this frame is larger than I originally thought. I’m 6’ and it’s good but it may suit taller riders even better. Have fun with this bike! Keep it forever or ride it into the ground in a couple months, as long as you use it. :)
