Why free? Honestly, I think it should be worth something. Not a lot maybe, but something. But the market disagrees. It seems no one on CL within shopping proximity to Serramonte in Daly City is interested in this at any price. We simply don't need it any more because we replaced our dead furnace with a heat pump, and it cools as well as heats. I'd really like to get the AC out of the carport, but I don't want to junk it BECAUSE IT WORKS PERFECTLY, and I'm sure someone out there in our ever hotter world could use it. So FREE FREE FREE.
Here are the details.
12,000BTU is a lot of cooling power, enough for a large living room +. Our place doesn't have doors to close off the LR, and the AC brought down temps -albeit to a somewhat lesser degree - in the adjacent areas.
I got it maybe 7 years ago because even though it rarely gets hot enough to need it here in the Fog Belt, I get heat-sick really easily, and I have to have a way to get out of the heat on those few days it hits here. It has always worked great. It has very low operation always compared to it's chronological age.
OTOH, it's damp and rainy here so with the AC being outside for several years there are rust stains on top of the case you can see in the photo, and some corrosion inside on the chassis where the condensation pools.
INSTALLATION CAVEATS
It's a conventional window style, meant for a double-hung window. Lots of residences in the Bay Area have other kinds of windows though. E.g. we have sliding windows that open sideways, and I had to create a pretty involved hack to fit this into the window frame after removing both of the panes.
Also, given its dimensions, it won't fit in smaller double-hung windows. Check not just the width of your window, but the height of the opening. Thankfully, the AC has two-piece construction which makes it easier to install than one-piece models of this capacity: you secure the case in the window and then slide in the chassis, so you don't have to handle all the weight to fit it.
The chassis is still heavy, maybe 75 lbs. ?? I did get it in by myself when I got it, but now I've developed some geriatric infirmities and have to have help to move it safely.
