We are a private family in Daegu looking for a responsible, academically minded native or near-native English-speaking "Learning Coach / Academic Tutor" for our Grade 4 son.
He is currently enrolled in the Texas Tech University K-12 online school program (Grade 4, Semester 1).
This is NOT a traditional English conversation tutoring position. Our goal is to provide an academic environment similar to an actual U.S. or Canadian elementary school and help him develop the skills needed to study independently in English.
1. SCHEDULE
Monday: 3:30–5:30 PM
Tuesday–Friday: 6:30–9:30 PM
Approximately 14 hours per week, in person in Daegu.
We are looking for someone who can maintain this schedule consistently and preferably work with our family long-term.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES
The curriculum and coursework are already provided by Texas Tech University K-12. You will not need to create a curriculum from scratch.
Your role will include:
• Guiding him through Grade 4 English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies
• Explaining concepts he does not fully understand rather than simply providing answers
• Teaching him how to take his own notes, summarize key concepts, and review what he has learned
• Developing independent study habits and self-correction skills
• Identifying unfamiliar vocabulary and making sure he understands and can use new words
• Naturally correcting pronunciation and spoken English
• Encouraging discussion and having him explain what he has learned in his own words
• Helping with reading comprehension and academic writing
• Reviewing assignments while ensuring that the work remains the student's own
• Monitoring his academic progress and helping him complete the required coursework within each semester
We are looking for someone who can be an academic mentor, rather than simply supervising him while he completes online assignments.
3. IDEAL CANDIDATE
• Native or near-native English proficiency
• Experience with elementary-aged children
• Familiarity with U.S. or Canadian education
• Teaching, tutoring, education, or child-development experience preferred
• Comfortable assisting with Grade 4-level ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies
• Patient, organized, reliable, and able to explain concepts clearly
• Able to commit long-term
Candidates who attended school in the U.S. or Canada or have experience teaching an American/Canadian curriculum are especially welcome.
A teaching certificate is preferred but not required.
Applicants must already have appropriate legal authorization to work in Korea. F-visa holders, including F-4 holders, are welcome.
4. COMPENSATION
KRW 3.0–3.5 million per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
Regular schedule: approximately 14 hours/week.
We prefer a fixed monthly arrangement for the right candidate.
5. SUMMER / WINTER BREAKS
Our son may attend a school or educational program abroad for approximately 1–2 months during summer or winter vacation.
Because we are looking for a long-term tutor, we are open to arranging a monthly retainer during extended overseas periods so that the tutor's regular schedule can be reserved until he returns.
If mutually convenient, limited online academic support may also be arranged during these periods.
