This large, ORIGINAL painting was personally commissioned from Karun (Tio) Warun, while we were living in Australia.
Title: Pundin Parreeyt
(Living with Water)
Medium: Acrylic on Linen
Dimensions: 80" x 42"
Pundin Parreeyt (Living with Water), tells the story of the Gunditjmara people and their close association with the ocean. Such stories have been passed down from the Elders. This vibrant painting presents an aerial view of the sea, with deep blue waters surrounding sweeping golden sandbanks that flow across the canvas. The white dots along the edge of the sand bank depicts the breaking water. The circular shapes represent fish traps set by men, while vivid orange splashes portray the various forms of marine life ... fish, sharks and stingrays. The curved yellow strip through the centre of the canvas represents a sand bar. This painting represents the ideal relationship between man and water, demonstrating how when man cares for water life, water life reciprocates.
Tio's original paintings are in some of the most exclusive private art collections in the world, including:
Oprah Winfrey, Pierce Brosnan (who owns an original from the "Living with Water" series), Prince of Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister of Turkey, Sultan Indris of Sallengoor and many other privtae collections in addition to commercial installations.
Kurun (Tio) Warun is a member of the indigenous Guntijamara
tribe and is a descendant from Truganini, the last Tasmanian indigenous queen. His name means 'Hissing Swan' and he lives in the Noosa hinterland in South East
Queensland.
He is best known for his exceptional dot art and his talent as a didgeridoo musician. He expresses his culture through art and music and has won international recognition in these fields. Starting at just eight years of age, he has become a sought after artist; his works are valuable pieces of collectable aboriginal art.
His aboriginal dot paintings have a traditional meaning which is not always immediately discernable, but within the colours, lines and space we are led through an underlying story.
In addition to his paintings, Tio also finds expression through traditional dance and music. Being an accomplished didgeridoo musician he has performed around the world in places as far flung as Italy and Korea. He played a role in the Sydney 2000 Olympic games as a traditional artist, played for Opray Winfrey during her down-under tour, has appeared on NBC television in the United States performed for Chelsea Clinton, the former US president's daughter.
