Up for sale is an authentic antique nautical ship's porthole window. The antiques dealer we purchased the porthole from (10 years ago) said it was salvaged from a vessel in Monterey. Crafted from exceptionally heavy, solid cast bronze (or brass), this robust marine artifact features the highly desirable and classic "4-dog" bolt configuration. This is a true industrial relic of maritime history, perfect for collectors, coastal homes, bars, restaurants, or unique architectural restoration projects!Key
Features & Mechanics:
Heavy-Duty Construction: Solid cast metal frame that showcases a rich, authentic aged patina. No cracks or structural damage in the metal frame. There are no seals inside the frame channels (so it is not not water tight)
Functional Mechanics:
All 4 closure "dogs" (threaded bolts) spin on and off (using a wrench). The heavy-duty frame hinge allows the viewing hatch to swing wide open (not original bolt/hinge pin).
Original Glass:
Thick, clear marine-grade viewing glass is glued securely inside the frame but has several chips.
Pre-Drilled Mounting Holes:
Outer flange features its original drilled hull-mounting holes, making it ready to be securely mounted flush against a wall or door.
This is an authentic, salvaged vintage item with beautiful natural wear. It has not been heavily polished, preserving its genuine seafaring history, weathering, and minor oxidation. The glass has one large chip and several smaller ones as well as minor surface character/wear but is completely free of deep cracks. Please review all photos carefully to appreciate its raw, untouched patina!
