BloqLab is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Designer / Drafter to support projects from initial concept through fabrication and installation.
This role is ideal for an early-career designer who can create accurate technical drawings while also understanding the creative intent behind a project. You will work closely with designers, project managers, fabricators, printers, and production teams to turn sketches and concepts into clear, buildable documentation.
The right candidate is comfortable moving between a computer, the print department, and the fabrication floor. You should be curious about how things are made, eager to learn, and willing to participate in a fast-moving, collaborative studio environment.
Responsibilities
Create and revise plans, elevations, sections, details, shop drawings, and production layouts.
Translate sketches, renderings, measurements, and design concepts into accurate, buildable drawings.
Prepare drawing packages for client review, internal production, fabrication, and installation.
Apply dimensions, materials, finishes, hardware, and fabrication notes to drawing sets.
Review drawings for accuracy, scale, consistency, and production feasibility.
Update drawings based on redlines, field measurements, client feedback, and fabrication requirements.
Create presentation layouts, diagrams, renderings, and supporting graphics.
Prepare artwork and production files for digital, large-format, and specialty printing.
Check print files for dimensions, scale, resolution, color mode, bleed, trim, and output requirements.
Assist with material research, prototyping, mockups, and design development.
Coordinate with designers, fabricators, printers, vendors, and installers to resolve production details.
Visit the fabrication floor to confirm dimensions, materials, and construction methods.
Help document existing conditions through field measurements, photographs, and site surveys.
Maintain organized drawing sets, file structures, templates, and revision records.
Support multiple projects while working within fast-paced production schedules.
Required Qualifications
Technical training, coursework, or relevant experience in drafting, design, architecture, fabrication, or a related field.
1–3 years of relevant professional,.
Proficiency in Rhino & AutoCAD
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
Proficiency in KeyShot, 3ds Max, or similar rendering software.
Ability to read and create scaled plans, elevations, sections, and construction details.
Understanding of dimensions, annotations, drawing organization, and basic construction documentation.
Understanding of digital and print-production workflows.
Knowledge of file resolution, color modes, bleed, trim, scale, and common production file formats.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
Ability to understand and incorporate redlines and design feedback.
Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in both an office and active fabrication-shop environment.
Portfolio or work samples demonstrating drafting, technical-design, or production skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in architecture, experiential design, industrial design, or a related discipline is a plus.
Experience with AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or other 3D-design software.
Familiarity with wide-format printing, plotters, vinyl cutters, CNC machines, laser cutters, or 3D printers.
Experience preparing drawings for exhibits, trade-show booths, branded environments, signage, displays, fixtures, installations, or custom products.
Understanding of wood, metal, plastics, graphics, lighting, and common fabrication methods.
Familiarity with field measuring, site documentation, and installation drawings.
Experience creating 3D models, renderings, prototypes, or physical mockups.
Interest in modular, reusable, and sustainable design systems.

Work Environment
This is an on-site position within a collaborative design and fabrication environment. The role includes regular interaction with an active production floor and may occasionally require site visits, field measurements, or support during installations.
