BloqLab is looking for an experienced Scenic Carpenter to join our fabrication team in Burbank.
We design and build custom trade show exhibits, branded activations, pop-ups, retail displays, scenic environments, furniture and one-of-a-kind installations.
This is a hands-on shop position for someone who enjoys building custom projects rather than doing repetitive construction work.
If your background is in scenic carpentry, cabinetmaking, finish carpentry, exhibit fabrication, set building, millwork or custom woodworking, we would like to hear from you.
What You'll Do
Build custom displays, walls, counters, cabinets, platforms, furniture and exhibit components from shop drawings and renderings
Cut and assemble plywood, MDF, hardwoods, laminates and other fabrication materials
Operate table saws, miter saws, routers, sanders and other woodworking equipment
Assemble, laminate, sand, prep and finish components to a high standard
Read measurements, shop drawings and construction details
Work with CNC-cut components and assemble fabricated parts
Solve fabrication problems and help determine efficient ways to build custom designs
Maintain an organized and safe workspace
Work collaboratively with designers, fabricators and project managers
What We're Looking For
Required
2+ years of professional experience in one or more of the following:
Scenic carpentry, set building, cabinetmaking, finish carpentry, millwork, exhibit fabrication or custom woodworking.
You should also be able to:
Accurately measure, cut and assemble wood components
Safely operate common woodworking tools and machinery
Read basic shop drawings or construction drawings
Produce clean, accurate work
Work independently once a project is explained
Communicate effectively with the fabrication team
Lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
Reliably commute to our Burbank fabrication facility
You do not need previous trade show or scenic experience if you are already a strong cabinetmaker, finish carpenter or custom woodworker.
Why BloqLab
Instead of building the same thing every day, you'll work on a constantly changing mix of custom projects for events, trade shows, brand activations and experiential environments.
Our shop combines traditional fabrication with CNC machining, digital fabrication, 3D printing, electronics and interactive technology.
We provide the tools and equipment needed for the work and offer opportunities to expand your fabrication skills and take on more responsibility as you grow with the company.
