The job market can feel impossible right now, but one of the best secrets to finding work is collaboration. Most professionals need to team up with people in complementary fields to solve real problems.
How do you figure out what problems you can solve?
1. Identify your innate soft skills (what you naturally do well).
2. Identify your field of interest.
3. Combine the two to define clear roles or job titles for yourself.
The next step is asking yourself two questions:
What specific problems can your soft skills solve in your chosen industry?
Which professionals are you likely to collaborate with to solve those problems?
From there, you introduce yourself to those professionals or directly to a company and clearly lay out how teaming up with them creates real solutions.
For example:
An interior decorator will collaborate with a real estate agent
A geologist will collaborate with an urban planning firm
A songwriter will collaborate with a mental health organization
A history major will collaborate with an EdTech company
A florist will collaborate with a corporate event planning company
