We are a well-established computer repair shop in Berkeley serving a diverse customer base with computer repair, technical support, and related services.
We are looking for a reliable and motivated Technical Assistant / Computer Repair Assistant to join our team.
This is a hands-on, entry-level position for someone who enjoys computers and technology and wants to gain experience in a professional computer repair environment.
Previous professional repair experience is helpful, but not required. We are willing to train the right person.
This position includes both technical and non-technical responsibilities. We are looking for someone who is willing to help wherever needed and contribute to the day-to-day operation of the shop.
Position Overview:
As a Technical Assistant / Computer Repair Assistant, you will support our technicians and staff with repairs, customer service, inventory, organization, and general shop operations.
This role is a good opportunity for someone who wants to improve their technical skills while gaining real-world experience working with customers, computers, and electronic devices.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Support:
- Assist technicians with diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance of laptops, desktops, PCs, Macs, and other electronic devices.
- Perform basic repairs and hardware upgrades under supervision.
- Install or replace components such as RAM, SSDs, batteries, screens, and other hardware.
- Assist with software installation, setup, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Learn proper diagnostic and repair procedures through hands-on training.
- Help test repaired devices before they are returned to customers.
Customer Support:
- Assist with customer check-ins and check-outs.
- Listen to customer concerns and accurately document reported problems.
- Provide basic updates to customers regarding repair status.
- Answer basic customer questions in a professional and courteous manner.
- Help ensure customers receive a positive and professional experience.
Operational Support:
- Maintain the organization and cleanliness of workspaces, including general cleaning and tidying tasks.
- Help manage inventory by tracking parts, accessories, and supplies.
- Organize tools, computer parts, equipment, and repair areas.
- Help receive, label, and process incoming parts and equipment.
- Assist with general shop duties as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the team and ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of computer systems, hardware, software, and electronics.
- Strong desire to learn and develop both technical and operational skills.
- Willingness to assist with a variety of tasks and adapt to the needs of the team.
- Familiarity with Windows and macOS environments.
- Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and pay attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively and take initiative when appropriate.
- Willingness to perform both technical and non-technical tasks.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor.
- Must be willing to undergo a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in computer repair, IT, electronics, retail, or customer service is a plus, but not required.
- Technical certifications or relevant computer-related coursework are advantageous.
- Experience building or upgrading computers is a plus.
- Experience replacing computer components or troubleshooting hardware and software is helpful.
- Personal experience helping friends, family, or others with computer problems is also valuable.
Work Hours:
- Part-time position with potential to transition to full-time.
- Flexible scheduling may be available depending on business needs.
- Regular operating hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
- Occasional Saturday availability may be needed.
