This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork from my ongoing exploration of abstraction, movement, natural systems and the relationship between intention and chance.
I began developing my pendulum-based painting process in 2003. Paint is set into motion using a suspended pendulum system, allowing gravity, momentum and the physical behavior of the materials to participate in the composition. I guide the process through choices of color, layering, placement and changes in movement as the painting develops.
The resulting imagery often evokes forms found at radically different scales — astronomical, geological, biological and microscopic.
This particular painting has a deep, atmospheric palette of greens, violets and earth tones, punctuated by vivid areas of cobalt blue, yellow, coral and luminous green. From across a room it reads as a large abstract composition; up close, intricate cellular forms, pools of color, translucent passages and layered textures emerge throughout the surface.
My background began in music before moving into visual art, and my work has developed over more than two decades alongside longstanding interests in nature, astronomy, psychology, spirituality and consciousness.
