Hi, All:
My name is Steven and I live in downtown Berkeley right across from the University. I am mobile but I have cerebral palsy.
There is a construction developer who is going to be buiulding a 26-story, 433 unit apartment building at thhe corner od Oxford Street and Center Street which will bring just a little over 1200+ residents plus ground floor shopping and restaurants and when I look at the sidewalk on the other half of the sidewalk from where the building is going to be built I get the very strong feeling that people in wheelchairs and blind people will have a very hard time using the sidewalkbetween Oxford Ln and Allston Way.
What I would like is to find some people who are in wheelchairs who would be willing to join me in my efforts to advocate for the rights of the disabled by coming over and meeting me at the location in question so I can take pictures of you in your wheelchair on the sidewalk so that people can get a perspective of the sidewalk in question.
What I am trying to do is show the city official what kind of hardship that disabled people would have when using the sidewalk once 1200+ people are using it plus shoppers and people coming to sporting events and everything.
I would be grateful for your help. Please contact me so we can arrage a time to meet and take some pictures.
