Our big old Victorian has a room opening up, and we’re looking for one new housemate.
The room gets sun most of the day. It faces south, has two tall windows and a walk-in closet, and we can leave it empty or set it up with a bed, desk, and chair. Rent is $1200 a month, plus around $200 for utilities, which covers fast wifi and shared household stuff. Month to month.
Who we are: a handful of people in our 40s to 60s working in tech, science, and impact work, plus a couple of artists. We’re all pretty heads-down on our own projects, but we like each other and genuinely enjoy living together. Once a month we do a proper family dinner, and in between there are plenty of spontaneous meals and the occasional side project we team up on. We’ve all been to Burning Man and the 10 principles shape how we share space, but nobody is going to make you join a circle. It’s a relaxed house.
The house itself is quiet, with thick plaster walls, five bedrooms, and a huge kitchen that was just redone. Out back there’s a large yard with a vegetable garden, a fig tree, and a plum tree, and lots of places to sit outside.
Location is great. Ashby BART is about 7 minutes on foot, Berkeley Bowl is 8, and you’re close to the Thai Temple brunch, the farmers market, and plenty of cafes. Street parking is easy.
Good to know:
Two cats and a dog live here. We might be open to one more mellow pet.
Single occupancy only, so no couples.
We’d love someone tidy, reliable, and curious about the people they live with. Bonus points if you’d enjoy pitching in on the garden, sprucing up shared spaces, or hosting the occasional house night.
If this sounds like you, write us a note about who you are and what you’re looking for in a home. We’d love to meet you.
