Berkeley Outlet has been buying and selling used office furniture out of its Heinz Ave warehouse since 1978. After more than 45 years in business, the store is closing for good later this year. Once the doors shut, that's it, so this is your last chance to dig through the place.
THE STUFF
The warehouse is packed floor to ceiling. A partial list of what's currently on hand:
- Odds and ends: vintage lockers, medical mobility equipment, letterpress type cabinets, a model speedboat, boxes of thousands of CDs, and more weird stuff we haven't even catalogued yet
- Office furniture: filing cabinets (vertical, lateral, legal, card-catalog), executive wood desks, modular workstations, dozens of office chairs, conference tables, folding tables, bookcases, storage cabinets
- Warehouse racking & materials: pallet racking, reclaimed old-growth Douglas fir beams, plywood, lumber, pipe and framing stock
- Shop tools & machines: drill press, radial arm saw, bench vise, sewing machine, air compressor, sanders, grinders, hot-stamping press, forklift
- Electronics & lab gear: monitors, printers/copiers, cabling, lab glassware, a cryogenic dewar tank
- Appliances: commercial ranges, microwaves, a Pepsi vending machine
If you furnish offices, run a shop, build sets, or just love digging through a warehouse full of old stuff, come look around.
THE LOCATION
711 Heinz Ave, Berkeley, CA 94710. It's at the very end of Heinz Ave, near the railroad tracks, one block west of Berkeley Bowl West. There's a private parking lot on site, so bring a truck, van, or trailer if you're hauling anything big.
THE HOURS
Open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 12pm-5pm. Closed Sunday through Wednesday. Fair warning: the owner doesn't always show up right at noon, so don't be surprised if the doors open a little late.
WHEELIN' AND DEALIN'
Come ready to haggle. The owner drives a hard bargain, but deals can be had, especially if you're buying multiple items or willing to haul away a bulk lot. Bring cash: checkout is faster (though still not fast) with cash in hand, and credit cards are sometimes accepted, sometimes not, depending on the alignment of the heavenly bodies.
INVENTORY
Inventory changes constantly and nothing is listed online, so the only way to know what's there is to show up. Below is a more detailed (but still partial) breakdown by category:

A NOTE FROM A FAN
This listing was posted by a customer and loyal fan of this beloved old Berkeley junk joint. I'm not affiliated with the business in any way. I'm posting to help out the owner, who is getting on in years and no longer advertising his business. He's already sold the property, and the new owners will take occupancy later this year, inheriting any merchandise the current owner is unable to sell.
