The Apple USB SuperDrive is a compact, external CD and DVD reader/writer. While discontinued by Apple, it remains a reliable choice for playing physical media, ripping music, and data backups. Because it features a built-in USB-A cable, modern Macs require an Apple USB-C to USB Adapter to connect.

How it Works
The SuperDrive has a slot-loading mechanism with no physical eject button. To use it:
- Connect: Plug the drive directly into your Mac's USB port. It must be connected directly, not via a third-party unpowered USB hub, as it requires specific power requirements.
- Insert: Gently push your CD or DVD more than 70% of the way in until the motor pulls the disc.Play/Import: The Mac will recognize the drive in the Finder or the Apple Music app, where you can play media or import CDs into your library.
- Eject: To remove a disc, open Finder or the Music app, locate the SuperDrive icon, and press the eject button on the screen.
Compatibility
The SuperDrive is compatible with most Mac computers introduced in 2008 or later that do not have a built-in optical drive. However, it does not support Blu-ray discs.
