Linear Recumbent #3 - $390 (southwest Dane County)

This is an under-seat steering recumbent bike made by Linear, a company originally in Iowa, now located with a new owner in New York state. Two years ago we paid over $1,000 for a complete overhaul, including replacing anything that seemed worn, with upgrades in several places, like better brakes (including all pads), quick release front wheel, rear rack, all cables, tires, and complete professional tune-ups from Motorless Motion in Madison, Wisconsin.
This was never ridden after the upgrades because I was considering converting it to an ebike (which is facilitated by the horizontal aluminum beam construction).
Linear recumbents became sort of a cult, probably because of their unique all aluminum construction, relatively upright sitting position, and especially their under-seat steering. Those elements make for great comfort that solves the problems of back, neck, butt, and especially numbing hand pain. Although daunting for about the first 100 feet of riding, the under-seat steering becomes effortless. These bikes easily keep up with quick riders on the flats and downhills, but do take a bit more oomph to climb. However, the 27 gears give a low granny that will make up most hills. Fortunately, if one ever does need to walk, it is surprisingly easy to walk/steer it with just one hand on the top of the seat post.
This has 20”/16” wheels, and a 52” wheelbase (...that is too short for my 5’-9” height). The seat is non adjustable for tilting but can be converted with available parts via the New York Linear dealer. It has the desirable under-seat steering, 27 speeds (...using a 3 speed rear internal hub system), Topeak rear racks (designed to fit the clip-on trunk packs), LED taillights, and updated handlebar forward style grip shifters.
