What is a 1099 Independent Contractor?
Please note that this position is structured as a 1099 outside contractor role rather than a traditional W-2 employee position.
Taxes: Taxes are not withheld from your paycheck. As a 1099 contractor, you receive a Form 1099-NEC at the end of the year and are responsible for reporting and paying your own federal, state, and self-employment taxes.
Benefits & Control: Contractors typically manage their own tax withholdings and business-related deductions. You will operate under a service agreement providing full-time hours (Monday through Friday) on-site at our shop facility.
Overview:
We are a small, family-owned CNC turning and milling shop that produces precision components for the aerospace and industrial markets. We are looking for a dependable and motivated CNC Machine Operator / Shop Helper to join our team. This is an entry-level position with a variety of hands-on tasks and the opportunity to grow into a long-term role.
Primary Responsibilities (Machine Operator Focus):
*Operate and monitor CNC mills and Swiss-style lathes (training provided)
* Deburr, polish, clean, and blow off machined parts (training provided)
* Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges (training provided)
* Read and follow blueprints, travelers, and work instructions
* Package and label parts correctly (training provided)
* Maintain machine cleanliness and basic preventative maintenance
* Track production and assist in meeting daily output goals
Additional Responsibilities (Shop Helper Support):
* Stock and organize boxes, materials, and shelves
* File job paperwork and organize production documentation
* Sweep, mop, and maintain general shop cleanliness
* Assist machinists and production staff as needed
* Help with shipping, receiving, and general shop tasks
Qualifications:
* Entry-level to 1+ year of machine shop experience preferred
* Willingness to learn, take instruction, and work safely
* Good attention to detail and strong work ethic
* Ability to lift 30 lbs and stand for extended periods
* No formal experience required — we will train the right person
Schedule & Work Environment:
* Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM start time (8-10 hour shifts)
* No weekends required; occasional overtime available
* On-site in Bell Gardens, CA
* Friendly, team-based work culture in a clean, organized environment
