Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Operation:
Safely operate a flatbed truck for long-haul, regional, or local deliveries.
Navigate through various terrains and road conditions while adhering to federal and state traffic laws.
Load Securing:
Properly secure loads using chains, straps, and tarps to prevent shifting or damage during transport.
Follow DOT regulations for securing freight and oversized loads.
Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections:
Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the truck and trailer to ensure everything is in working order (brakes, lights, tires, etc.).
Report any maintenance issues or repairs needed.
Compliance with Regulations:
Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, hours of service (HOS) rules, and load weight limits.
Maintain accurate logbooks and records of driving hours, vehicle inspections, and any other required documentation.
Communication:
Maintain clear communication with dispatchers, customers, and other stakeholders to provide updates on delivery status and address any issues on the road.
Address any questions or concerns from customers regarding delivery times or cargo handling.
Safety and Efficiency:
Prioritize safety by driving within legal speed limits, adhering to company safety protocols, and ensuring the safe loading and unloading of goods.
Follow company guidelines for fuel efficiency and cost-effective driving practices.
Cargo Delivery and Unloading:
Deliver loads to various destinations in a timely manner, often requiring unloading of cargo at job sites or warehouses.
Verify and document delivery information, ensuring all paperwork is complete.
Travel Requirements:
Travel extensively across states, regions, or local routes and back home every weekend.
Ability to adapt to long hours and changing schedules based on delivery requirements.
Skills and Qualifications:
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with proper endorsements for flatbed driving.
Knowledge of flatbed-specific safety and load securing techniques.
Strong communication skills for interacting with dispatch, clients, and team members.
Physical fitness for load securing using straps, chains, tarping, and occasional cargo handling.
Experience with long-haul or regional driving.
