Blast from the past!! For sale is a used vintage Framus Arched-back Classical (Nylon-string) guitar in a gloss Natural finish. Framus label inside sound hole: Built in the Hearth of Bavaria, Model 5/73, 5 digit serial#, Made in W. Germany. Based on the blue ink date stamp 64F on the label it was made in June 1964.
Framus was a German luthier, who produced many kinds of instruments during the golden age of German guitar making between the 50s and the 80s. Framus was known worldwide for their quality and constant innovations. This guitar embodies the spirit of European craftsmanship, with its compact size and rich, resonant tone, it’s perfect for anyone looking to own a piece of guitar history. This would also be a great recording or traveling guitar! Looks and sounds great.
Dimensions:
38.5" total length, body is 13.5" at widest point of lower bout and 10.25" at widest point of upper bout.3.5" wide excluding bowl back. Scale length 24.75"
This guitar has some unusual features. Three-per-side open-gear tuners with brass plates and pearloid buttons. Has a metal gold script “Framus” logo. Its a set neck with a zero fret (common on Framus instruments of the era) plus 18 additional frets to the body. As with most classical guitars no dot markers on the fretboard but it has side-dot markers along the edge. Most notable feature is the bowl shaped arched back that provides not only strength but an increase in tonal output.
Beautiful aged amber finish over a spruce top showing clear grain. Highly figured reddish-brown Mahogany wood with strong flame/striped grain and a high-gloss finish on the back and sides.
The Framus guitar is in overall good condition, considering its a played 62 year old guitar. The neck is straight. Fingerboard and frets show little signs of wear. There are some minor cosmetic issues, consisting of varnish wear, dings, scuffs and scratches along with some wear at the edges. The original finish is in good condition although there is a noticeable finish blemish in the back along with a long finish scratch. Except for the truss rod cover, the tuners and other brass parts show only minor signs of tarnish. The original gold colored metal "Framus" name on the headstock was lifting on one side but has been glued back down. The most noticeable cosmetic issues are on the guitar body sides. One side has a 1" gouge on the upper bout. The other side on the lower bout a professional luthier repaired some cracks (wood cleats added inside body of guitar). The asking price was reduced accordingly. See photos. Please view the pictures carefully and consider them part of the description.
