Arcane Lullaby, is seeking a new drummer for live performances in the Santa Cruz area.
We are looking for someone who will be a great fit in terms of style, interest and skill.
We play all original music that I wrote (and continue to write) in a variety of different musical styles including alternative rock, funk, goth, blues, punk, pop, metal, reggae, soul, psychedelic, prog, and my own unique style of music. We do not play cover songs, and this is not a collaborative band per se, however many of the songs do have solo sections where improvisation and experimentation is very much encouraged.
Please listen to our music to see if you would like to join the band and play this music live.
Our third album is called Oracular Muse (Released January 11, 2026 – 7 songs)
Our second album is called Arcane Lullaby Heretical Daydream (Released in July 2024 - 9 songs)
Our first album is called Arcane Lullaby Innermost Seer (Released in December 2022 - 15 songs)
You can find these albums on any of the streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music / iTunes, Amazon Music, YouTube music, etc.)
30 of these songs (plus any new songs I write) are the songs that we will be playing live so please listen to all of these to see if it is something that you would enjoy being a part of and playing regularly. The one song we do not perform live is the instrumental titled “Pulse”. And there is a single called Fickle that is not on any of the albums that we do play live.
At present the band is me, Jason, on guitar, Ray on Bass, and Kiryn on vocals. Kiryn was the singer for the entirety of Oracular Muse, and on Heretical Daydream she sang lead on 3 tracks and harmonies on an additional 3 tracks, while two other singers sang the other tracks on that album. Innermost Seer had three altogether different singers. I am in my 40s, Ray is in is 50s and Kiryn is 19.
What we are looking for a Drummer with the following qualities:
- Loves the music of Arcane Lullaby, wants to learn and play these songs, and make a serious commitment to this band.
- Knows how to play a wide variety of styles and beats and can take some direction where needed to serve the music.
- Has the ability to play with a stable tempo - can start a song in a specific BPM and keep it stable throughout the entirety of the song. Experience with a metronome. Ability to play to a click if/when needed. Okay to use in ear metronome if needed (encouraged)
- Has good dynamics and a good ear for listening to the band, with the ability to impart their own stylistic spice during the solo sections.
- Available to rehearse and/or play gigs on a regular basis (at least twice a month).
- Have your own drum set for live shows (I have an eKit for silent rehearsals).
- Have your own reliable transportation.
- Good communication skills and can be responsive to scheduling communications.
- Respects and honors schedules committed to. Will not bail on gigs or cancel gigs or rehearsals the day of or the day or days before. Won’t quit the band right before a gig.
- Lives in Santa Cruz County California or a very-nearby neighboring area (Monterey, San Jose, etc.)
- Is interested in this for the love and joy of making live music, not requiring regular payment. We will evenly split the money we make at gigs including tips, but we cannot pay you for rehearsals.
- Keeps up with the parts. After learning the songs will practice on your own to not forget the parts so that when we play as a band you know when to play each part at the right time.
Being in a band takes time and energy but it is also fun and rewarding, especially playing live and putting out singles and albums. We have real passion to have this band reach its potential and bring meaning and joy to audiences and ourselves. We have no delusions of grandeur and are not trying to “make it” in the music world. We just want to be successful in terms of enjoying playing music together, playing live shows, making some recordings, having fun, and making a meaningful impact to our audiences and fans.
If you are interested in trying out to be our new drummer then please respond to set up a time to meet and audition by playing at least three Arcane Lullaby songs and doing a little improv jamming to see if there is chemistry and a good match. Then if all goes well and we all want to move forward we would then ask you to learn the rest of the songs and start rehearsing regularly (at least twice a month). Jason, the guitarist would want to do some weekly sessionals with you if possible to get you caught up and ready to play gigs. We are looking for longevity.
Does this sound like something you would be interested in?
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE INCLUDE ALL THESE THINGS IN YOUR RESPONSE:
- Include a link to any audio or video of you playing drums.
- list your three favorite Arcane Lullaby songs.
- Include your actual email address in the body text so that we can continue our conversation outside of craigslist.
