A genuine ancient Greek silver coin from the island of Thasos (Thracian Islands, northern Aegean), minted circa 500-400 BC (5th to early 4th century BC). This is the famous "Satyr and Nymph" type: Obverse: A nude, ithyphallic satyr (mythical follower of Dionysus) carrying/embracing a nymph, who raises her hand in protest. This iconic Dionysian scene symbolizes ecstasy and fertility in ancient Greek/Thracian culture.
Reverse: Classic quadripartite incuse square (deep punch mark, typical of archaic Greek coinage).
Described to me by APMEX (American Precious Metals Exchange, a reputable U.S. dealer) as a "Thasos solver Drachm" from the 5th-4th century BC with the satyr-nymph scene—likely referring to the well-known stater (main denomination) or drachm variant. Thasos was renowned for its silver mines and produced some of the most striking early Greek coins.
