Looking for like-minded people in the DC area that enjoy playing metal and the discipline that entails. The goal is to challenge, collaborate, improve as musicians, have fun, and make music suitable for live playing that emphasizes rich harmony, melody, and rhythm. This could be a band, or a metal conservatory, or an attempt to create a unique DC metal scene. That depends on how much interest there is for those things.
Ideally I'd like to to meet up at least once per week while STRIVING TO compose and execute at a pro-level to make the best metal songs we ever heard. Since metal often exists at the limits of physical capability, this is likely a long-term project with no immediate gratification. Example: The drum part for Bleed by Meshuggah apparently took a solid year of skills development to accomplish. The rule is all songs will need to be able to be played live, trading ideas remotely and composing via DAW and click-tracks is acceptable. The goal is to perform locally, record an EP, and then branch out if it makes sense to do so.
I do guitar and vocals and I'm not pro level in either, but I do work hard at it. Then again many of the great metal bands were just a product of people coming together with a similar level of focus and discipline. If you think you're one of those people please respond to this post. Fast rhythm/lead/extended range guitars, bassists, metal drummers, and clean/growl vocals are all fair game.
