When Trump was running for President in August 2024, he claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris was lying when she referred to his tariff plan as a “Trump tax.” “She is a liar. She makes up crap … I am going to put tariffs on other countries coming into our country, and that has nothing to do with taxes to us. That is a tax on another country,” Trump said.
In September 2024, he repeated the claim during an interview with Fox News: “It’s not a tax on the middle class. It’s a tax on another country.”
In its opinion earlier this year striking down the majority of Trump’s unilateral tariffs he imposed, the Supreme Court wrote, “A tariff,” after all, “is a tax levied on imported goods and services.” No wonder Trump is such a lousy businessman. He doesn’t even understand basic economics. Ask all the American taxpayers who paid billions of dollars in Trump’s tariffs! They’ll confirm that tariffs are not paid by foreign countries. At least the importers are getting refunds from the federal government. The taxpayers got screwed.
C’mon all you Trump supporters. Explain how Trump got this so wrong.
