Look around Washington. They can feel what is coming. Some are trying to disappear.
Watch carefully over the weeks ahead as biographies change, old statements vanish, and people who spent years cheering every outrage suddenly rediscover their discomfort with Donald Trump. Listen for the people who will soon explain that they never really supported that part.
They were concerned privately. They objected behind closed doors. They stayed because they believed they could moderate him. They were protecting the country from something worse.
They will have stories. They always do.
Others are taking. They understand that access to power may be running out, and so the feeding frenzy accelerates. Take the contracts, the favors, the pardons, the access, the watches, the money. Take whatever can be carried through the door before somebody changes the locks.
Others will double down. They will become louder, uglier and more extreme because fanaticism is often the last refuge of a movement that can feel the world moving underneath its feet.
None of it will work because there is nowhere to hide from the record.
The votes were recorded. The orders were signed. The contracts were awarded. The money moved. The threats were made. The lies were televised. The photographs were taken. The names are known. The history exists.
That is the thing about accountability that cowards never understand until it arrives. It does not require their cooperation. Nobody needs their confession or their apology. Nobody needs them to admit what they did.
