A coalition of nearly 50 Democratic House candidates pledged to make anti-corruption legislation their top priority if elected, in a letter released just over a week before Election Day.
“When the next Congress convenes, we pledge to make anti-corruption and government reform a first-order legislative priority so we can make everyday life more affordable for families,” the candidates wrote in a letter to Congress.
“It’s time to put power back in the hands of the American people, hold politicians accountable, and build a system and economy that puts regular people first.”
In the letter, organized by the Democratic-aligned voting rights group Defend the Vote, the candidates said legislation priorities would “reflect the demands of the American people” including:
“Getting big, dark, and foreign money out of our politics”
“Strengthening ethics, transparency, and accountability laws for public officials”
“Ending partisan gerrymandering and protecting the right to vote”
